So I have been playing Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for close to 50 hours know and I feel I have enough experience to give this game a fair review. First off let me start by saying that this game is long! I have been playing for 50 hours and I feel that I have barely made a dent. The amount of quests to do in this game is incredible, just when you think you have finished a quest you are sent off to do something else. Sometimes it gets to the point of being overwhelming and frustrating to the point where I need to another game, cause my brain feels like its been turned to mush. The graphics for Skyrim are very impressive... from a distance. Don't get me wrong the graphics are great for the scale of this game, setting up lush environments and depth that feels like it runs to the end of the world. The weapons have great detail to them and each weapon and armor has it own special look to it. The magic is also very detailed, lightning actually looks like lightning and flames look like flames. The problem is when you get close to larger objects they become very textile and unappealing to the eye. I feel this also leads into the other major problem with Skyrim. That problem is the map not fully loading and also the player getting stuck in really weird places.
This map problem isn't bad in the beginning but it becomes more and more noticeable as the game goes on. I have fallen through the map about a dozen times now and have gotten stuck under steps and in rocks a few time. When this happens all you can do is load your last save, which can be very frustrating if you don't save very often. The other major glitch I deal with often is buttons on my controller working For example I will be fighting with a sword and then switch to magic, then when I go back to my sword I cant swing it. This becomes very frustrating in big fights, but it doesn't happen very often.
Although the above glitches sometimes rear their ugly head the game-play is smooth and tight. Magic feels powerful and and a steady crutch. Weapons feel strong and the finishing moves are extremely satisfying. Upgrades make the weapons, bows, and magic feel even stronger. The upgrading is very detailed and planning your upgrades is very important or else you will be stuck with a whole lot useless perks. Combat for the most part is smooth, every so often the frame rate drops though. Magic enimes can be very frustrating because of the power and range but with the right equipment it can be overcome.
Overall I would give this game an A. This is the best game I have played in a while, I don't remember being this engrossed in a game since Mass Effect 2. I know its a good game because I think about it when I am not playing it. The only problem I have with this game is it has been in devolpment for years now and I know it's a huge game but these bugs are pretty bad and get worse as the game goes on.
