Mass Effect 3 Preview
With just two weeks till Mass Effect 3 hits the stores, it seems like a good time to write up a preview for everyone to read up on! The third edition to the series is set to hit shelves on March 6th 2012, and the demo can be found on Xbox, PS3 and PC. The demo (Download Links) will give you an insight into the game, and some of the features it holds, as you play through 2 single player levels, and also access to the all-new co-op multiplayer is available. In this article I will go through some of the features of the game, so you guys know what to expect. Videos relating to each section will be linked under each section.
Mass Effect 3 will begin on Earth, with Commander Shepard on trial for the consequences of his/her actions in the Mass Effect 2 DLC pack Arrival. During the trial, Earth is attacked by Reapers. Faced with insurmountable odds, Shepard is forced to flee the planet in order to gather support from alien civilizations and mount a counter-attack while also having to deal with Cerberus, who have decided to turn against him/her.
Custom Arsenal
You may have thought that ME1 and 2 allowed you to build your character to your play style, but BioWare have stepped it up a level for ME3. You will be able to tailor your character and squad with dozens of unique and powerful weapons and abilities, each with upgrades and modifications. This will allow you to build up a unique load out in game, with a chose of weapons that all can “pimped up” with the mods that you wish to place on them and then you will be able to upgrade your weapon as you progress. This also applies to the armour that you and your squad will use, with a fully customisable character, so that you can maybe have a helmet that isn’t part of the same armour as your chest armour. And even the colour can be refined to your liking. You can also do the same sort of things with the abilities that you chose for you and your squad to run and wreak havoc with.

Ruthless and Intelligent Enemies
As you play through the game you will battle merciless enemies that will consistently challenge your best combat tactics and put you on the edge of your seat. The main enemy that you will recognise is the reapers, an ancient race that you encounter during the finale of ME2. They are ruthless, and also hugely bigger than you. And, it gets even worse, because these monsters bring other races from across the galaxy that have been forced into servants of war. You will also be pitted against some familiar groups, including: Ceberus, the human group that saved you in ME2, and also you old friends the Geth, an old group who seem to have their own mission.

Adrenaline-Pumping Gameplay
If there is one thing the BioWare know how to do, it is keeping you immersed in a game till the very end. ME3 is no different, because you will feel every bullet impact, roll into cover, and unleash devastating heavy weapons in an intense and pulse-pounding action-shooter game. You will be fighting through the whole game, being incredibly outnumbered, but you must fight through with your elite squad and save Planet Earth from the Reapers; whilst making full use of the 6 different classes you can chose from at the beginning.

Interactive Storytelling
It is BioWare’s unique touch on their games: the player shapes the gamed based on their decisions in the cut-scenes with dialog. You will experience the beginning, middle, and end of an emotional story unlike any other, where the decisions you make completely shape how your game will turn out. With over 1000 different possible games, your game will be different to your mates, even if you just make one different decision. This however doesn’t mean that you can finish the game in over 1000 different ways, because that would just be ridiculous!

Integrated Co-Op Multiplayer
You’ve seen it all before, but you have to love it purely because it is Mass Effect. The introduction of the survival based multiplayer into ME3 is great to see from BioWare. You are on a team of up to 4 players, trying to beat waves of enemies that get increasingly difficult. You will get to chose a character with one of the classes that are found in the campaign, with the option to play as another race other than humans once you reach a high enough level. You can have lots of different characters, each tailored to different play styles and tactics. The question is, how long can you survive?

Better With Kinect
Mass Effect 3 will see Xbox Kinect users being able to command Shepard’s actions and also those of their squad through voice command. You will also be able to use it to respond during dialog.

Conclusion
Overall, from all the information that has been released in the build up to ME3 release, and having played the demo, I would say that BioWare are going to finish this epic trilogy on a bombshell, and do the series justice. The addition of multiplayer, and the kinect voice command are just two new features that will take the gameplay to a whole new level. And, they couldn't have much better press than being named the Most Anticipated Game of 2012.
This game is not going to be worth a miss, so make sure that you check it out when it is released into stores very soon!
